This blog I'm creating is for my own record. I will like to remember the history of art and paintings while making my art works. It is a long story and there are many stages, which it went through. Since when we started behaving as human or close to human like, we realised that we are gifted with an unique capability of expressing ourselves in verbal mode and visual mode of communications. It did not begin but actually increased. thousands of years ago when our Palaeolithic ancestors created the first artworks in form of Cave paintings.
And then when we became more civilised we started with Gothic style of paintings with architectures of 12th century. At this time Christianity was entering a new and triumphant phase of its history so the age of chivalry was also the time of building of the magnificent Gothic cathedrals such as those in the northern French towns of Chartres, Reims, and Amiens..The most noticeable feature of the art of Gothic period is its increased naturalism.
The Italian Renaissance, Italy was the major catalyst of progress during the Renaissance. This is the rich period of development that occurred in Europe at the end of Middle Ages. As the Gothic paintings had been shaped by feudal societies of Middle Ages, with its roots in Romaneque and byzentine traditions, Renaissance art was born out of new, rapidly evolving civilisation is. The quest for scientific precision and greater realism culminated in the superb balance and harmony of Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo. Mannerism became the dominant style.
The Renaissance paintings was premature went on to the stage of high Renaissance. There we find some of the greatest artists ever known the mighty runtimes Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo the the Umbrian , Raphael and Venitans - Titan, Tintoretto and Veronese.
Neoclassicism and romanticism. New classes was born out of rejection of the Rococo and let Baroque styles, around the middle of 18th century neoclassical artists wanted it style that could convey serious moral ideas such as Justice honour and patriotism. They yearn to create the simple, dignified style of art of classical Greece and Rome. Some succeeded but the movement suffered from a certain godlessness, a spirit of academic narrowness. One of the notable neoclassical artist was Francisco Goa. Others whose name could be quoted are David, Raynold and Ingres.
Romanticism began in the same area but it was an approach that had to do with modern rather than the antique, and it was about wildness and expression rather than control. Romantic artists had no fixed laws relating to beauty or propreities of subject matter. Instead romanticism was a creative outlook a way of life. This is the famous Romantic landscape artists are Turner and Constable.
In the middle of the 19th century painters began to look at reality with a new alertness. Academic conventions and become so solidified and entrenched that artists such as Gustavo Corbett could see no point in them. He painted peasent life as it truly was, thereby shocking and alienating the art world establishment. The level of this reaction was realism, but the next generation of artists ultimately found it too material aviation. They too rejected idealised and emotional themes but this sort to go much farther. Studio painting seemed in itself unnatural to them when the real world was out there. It was there that the painted, outside, seeking to capture the fleeting effects of light and and give a real impression of a passing moment. They were known as impressionists and their most characteristic figures were Claude Monnet and Auguste Renoir.
Postimpressionist is the level for drivers are that immediately followed Impressionism (1886 - 1910). The impressionists had destroyed forever and artistic believe in objective truth of nature. Painters now understood that what we see depends on how we see, and even more when we see the objective view was in fact subject to both perception and time. The most known artist was Paul Cézanne, who understood, is no artist before him if it had, the person will need of artists to respond to what he saw and make a visual and enduring image of its favour and multi dimensional beauty.
20th century art is almost indefinable, and ironically we can consider that as its definition. This makes sense as Willie with in a world that is in a constant state of flux. Not only is science changing the outward forms of life, but we are beginning to discover the strange centrality of our subconscious desires and fears all this is completely new and unsettling, and are naturally reflects it in the paintings.
Fauvism and Cubism were the first movements of this modern period in which colour and shapes ruled supreme. The art of our century has been dominated by two men Henry Matisse and Pablo Picasso. In North Europe the Fauve's celebration of colour was pushed to new emotional and psychological depths. Expressionism as it was generally known, developed almost simultaneously in different centuries from about 1905.
In 1911, a new group of German artists began exhibiting their work to the public.Der Blaue Reiter was to become the highpoint of German expressionism, but it also opened the way towards abstraction with its stand for free experimentation and originality. It is Wassily Kandinsky, the most influential member of the group, who is most often credited with distinction of painting the first abstract picture in 1910.
Shapes and colours have always had their own emotional effect and the designs on ancient textiles and furnishings are abstract as a whole pages of mediaeval manuscripts. But never before in Western painting at his delight in shape as such, in colour made independent of nature, being taken seriously as a straight subject for the painter. Abstraction became the perfect vehicle for artists to explore and universalise these ideas and sensations.
